Bringing awareness to Child Abuse Prevention and Month of the Military Child
Virginia Beach GrowSmart is hosting Celebrating Children on Saturday, April 27th from 8:30 am – 12 pm at Mt. Trashmore. This is a FREE family-friendly event that brings awareness to Child Abuse Prevention and Month of the Military Child. The event features a fun run, DJ, inflatables, petting zoo, Navy Band performance, children’s activities and community exhibitors.
Dr. Caitlin Pedati, Director of the Virginia Beach Department of Health will be onsite to welcome families and kick-off the fun run. Community partners include Virginia Beach Department of Health offering onsite dental screenings, home visiting services and WIC information; Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia’s mobile market; Virginia Beach Public Library’s story walk; Virginia Beach City Public Schools pre-k program and Reading Bus, plus much more!
Prevent Child Abuse America recognizes that all community members have a role in ensuring children have positive experiences and families have the resources they need when they need them, well before they are in crisis. The theme of this year’s awareness and impact campaign is “Building A Hopeful Future Together”
"Taking Care of Our Military Children" is the theme of this year's Month of the Military Child campaign. We’re celebrating everything military children mean to our community and offering powerful resources to help family units stay strong. Though military children are some of the most adaptable and resilient kids in the world, we know frequent moves and family separations can be hard on them.
Child abuse and neglect are preventable, and all communities benefit when children and families are well supported. Virginia Beach offers many community resources to support families and children. Celebrating Children brings together all these community partners and provides a fun, healthy event and opportunity to celebrate and connect with families.
